Together let's work at making the workplace a safe, secure and healthy environment.
Globalization and OSH
Across the world, despite increase in investments and technological advancements, about 1.7 million people lose their lives or are hurt by work-related incidents and diseases (source: WHO). This figure is a startling reminder that all of us must do more to ensure safe and healthy work environments.
With globalization of the economy, one of the most significant impacts on occupational safety and health is the harmonization of standards. OSH is seen bymany enterprises not only as a legal requirement but also a means of improving productivity.
OSH in ASEAN
In recent years, ASEAN member countries have made rapid progress in raising OSH standards. In 2007, under the ASEAN-OSH Network Plan of Action, all member countries target to implement national OSH strategies and programmes by 2012.
Singapore - working towards the best safety records in the world
Through capability and partnership building, and outreach efforts to various industry stakeholders,t he WSH 2018 strategy hopes to set a benchmark for high WSH standards in Singapore, and develop its reputation as an Asian leader and global player in building a progressive and pervasive safety and health culture.
Another significant milestone for Singapore is the WSH Act which requires all workplaces to be compliant from 1 September 2011. The WSH Act ensures the cultivation of good safety habits in all individuals so as to engender a strong safety culture in all workplaces.
