WORKPLACE SAFETY & HEALTH COUNCIL, SINGAPORE

The Workplace Safety and Health (WSH) Council was formed on 1 April 2008. It comprises 16 leaders from the major industry sectors, including construction, manufacturing, marine industries, petrochemicals and logistics, the Government, unions and professionals from the legal, insurance and academic fields.

The Council will work closely with both government and industry stakeholders to raise WSH standards in Singapore and realise the national WSH 2015 vision to create safe and healthy workplaces for everyone. These include the Ministry of Manpower, other Government agencies, industry, unions and professional associations.

The Council's main functions are to build capabilities to manage WSH, promote WSH, recognise companies with good WSH records and set acceptable WSH practices.

SINGAPORE INSTITUTION OF SAFETY OFFICERS

Established in 1975, the Singapore Institution of Safety Officers (SISO) has since grown to more than 1,000 members who are not only safety officers, but also specialists in environment, fire safety, occupational hygiene and ergonomics.

SISO's members serve actively in various industries and provide professional services that add value to the businesses in which they work. Many also represent the Institution in working committees in Ministry of Manpower (MOM), National Environment Agency (NEA), National Fire and Civil Emergency Preparedness Council (NFEC), SPRING Singapore, Singapore Contractors' Association (SCAL), Land Transport Authority (LTA) and the Workplace Safety and Health Council (WSHC).

SISO is a member of the International Network of Safety and Health Practitioner Organizations (INSHPO) based in the United Kingdom.

In Nov 2009, SISO also signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), United Kingdom to foster closer collaboration, share active knowledge in OSH and recognize each other's qualifications in OSH.

Both SISO and The American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) signed a letter of agreement in Jun 2010 to work together on areas of mutual interest and benefits which will serve as the means to enhance these interests and to establish a framework for co-operative efforts.

The Occupational and Environmental Health Society is a non-profit organisation dedicated to the promotion of occupational and environmental health in Singapore.

NATIONAL SAFETY COUNCIL OF SINGAPORE

The National Safety Council Of Singapore (NSCS) was first known as the National Safety Council of Singapore when it was inaugurated on 1st July 1966 by Dr. Goh Keng Swee, the then Singapore Minister of Defence.

To keep up with moving times and developments and in addition to road safety involvement, NSCS also embarked on several other aspects of safety such as workplace safety & health, home safety, child safety and even safe community initiative.

The National Safety Council of Singapore is made up of elected Directors, representatives from various government agencies.

National Safety Council Of Singapore works in collaboration with the Government, employer organizations, workers' unions, professional bodies, grassroots organizations and other partners to achieve our common goals of preventing accidents through safety training, including safety awareness and encouraging continual improvement in safety standards.
