The Institution of Engineers, Singapore was formally established in July 1966 as the national society of engineers in Singapore. IES is the premier engineering Institution in Singapore and is often called upon by the Government to provide feedback on professional engineering matters. IES represents Singapore in the World Federation of Engineering Organisations (WFEO), ASEAN Federation of Engineering Organisations (AFEO) & the Federation of Engineering Institutions of Asia & the Pacific (FEIAP) in promoting goodwill and fellowship among all engineers in the region & internationally.

“DfS - the sustainable way to VZ” by Chan Yew Kwong, Senior Consultant, WSHC

This presentation will share with the audience on how Design for Safety (DfS), applied with a VZ mindset, can provide a sustainable framework for saving lives and preventing work-related injuries and illness.

Chan Yew Kwong

Mr Chan Yew Kwong is the Senior Consultant in the Workplace Safety & Health Council since Jul 2019.

He retired from the Ministry of Manpower’s Occupational Safety & Health Division in April 2019, after having served in the Ministry for about 35 years in various management roles. He is involved in the development and promotion of WSH-related Singapore Standards in Singapore. He was a Member of the Singapore Standards Council (SSC) for 6 years, from 2011 to 2017.

He is currently the Advisor to the SSC’s Quality & Safety Standards Committee.

“DfS - Adding Value to Safety” by Er. Lim Peng Hong, Managing Director, PH Consulting Pte Ltd

This presentation will share with the audience on Design for Safety workshops, which is a very useful tool in enhancing safety in the built environment.

Er. Lim Peng Hong

Er. Lim Peng Hong is a Professional Civil Engineer with 40 years of experience in structural, transportation, civil and geotechnical engineering in the region. He is registered in the specialized branch of geotechnical engineering under the Professional Engineers Board and is a Specialist Accredited Checker for Geotechnical Building Works

He is currently the President of the Singapore Professional Engineers Board (PEB) and Past President of the Association of Consulting. Engineers Singapore (ACES).

He is Deputy Chairman of the Mandai Park Development Environmental Advisory Panel and the Departmental Consultative Committee, Civil and Environmental Engineering, NUS. As a Design for Safety Professional, he has been involved in many mega projects in sectors such as healthcare, residential, aviation and education.

This presentation gives an overview of the WSHC’s 2022 Guide on DfS and sharing of DfS solutions and toward VZ mindset

“Design Safety into Factory Automation Systems” by Ms Wan Siew-Ping, Technical Consultant, Design Engineering 82 Pte Ltd

This presentation will share with the audience on the various areas of safety concerns and the various means machinery designers use to ensure everyone is protected.

Ms. Wan Siew-Ping

Ms. Wan Siew-Ping is an automated machinery design engineer since 1984 for the semiconductor backend manufacturing factories. She had delivered globally, automation in the production line covering manufacturing process equipment, handling equipment and inspection equipment.
