Strong demand for personal protection equipment (PPE) continues, as well as increased interest in ergonomic office equipment, and safe working at height solutions.
18 September 2018 – The region’s leading exhibition on workplace safety and health, OS+H Asia 2018, closed on 31 August at Suntec Singapore, having attracted more than 5,000 trade visitors from 36 countries over three days; a 15 per cent increase over the 2016 edition. According to an Indonesian visitor, Mr Buktirantai, from Dinasker Kepri to the Riau Islands Provincial Government Office for Manpower, Tanjung Pinang District, “We took away many developments and updates in personal protection equipment (PPE) specifically in the realm of gas detection and chemical protection. The range of products on show was impressive and beneficial, and we look forward to sharing what we learnt here with companies at home.”
Growing international profile
The increase in the internationality of visitors at this year’s edition, with participants from countries such as Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand, underlined the relevance of OS+H Asia as the leading regional networking and procurement platform for the latest workplace safety and health products and solutions.
First-time exhibitor Japanese company Kamakura Seisakusho Co Ltd, who showcased their industrial ventilation fans and adjustment equipment, confirmed that they have met many high-quality leads at OS+H Asia, particularly from Malaysia and Australia. Mr Masashi Ishii, Manager, from the COOLEX Division of the company said, “We met with close to 60 visiting companies and are hopeful to open a distribution channel in this part of Asia.”
Taiwan-based protective gear manufacturer Polison Corporation stated that they were “overwhelmed by the interest and knowledge of work safety specialists from the region and had many fruitful meetings with visiting companies from China, India, Indonesia, Philippines and Singapore,” said 2 marketing manager Ms Julie Cheng. “We had a very positive three days and look forward to returning to OS+H Asia in 2020.”
Technology and new solutions are a driving force
Continuing on a healthy growth trajectory, the 11th edition of the exhibition welcomed 200 exhibitors from 20 countries. Mr Gernot Ringling, Managing Director of Messe Düsseldorf Asia, organiser of OS+ H Asia said of the exhibition’s growth; “We are pleased with the increase in the size of the exhibition floor space and visitor numbers at this year’s iteration, as well as the energy and enthusiasm on the show floor over the three days.”
This year OS+H Asia showcased seven focus areas including the debut of the OSH Technology zone that presented smart technology and innovative solutions from Avetics Global, Fujitsu, and Magicsoft Asia Systems. The other focus areas were: Work at Height, Fire Protection, Environmental Control, Crisis and Emergency Management, Workplace Ergonomics, and Health at Work. “In addition to a strong showcase of innovations in workplace safety and health, OS+H Asia 2018 has offered a highly relevant and current line-up of presentation topics from workplace ergonomics to depression at work,” said Mr Ringling, adding, “In many workplaces, the focus has traditionally been on physical safety but with the growth in occupational illnesses there is a need to broaden that scope and include the area of work-related illnesses.”
The technical presentation series was well attended throughout the three days, with particular interest in talks from companies from Russia and Brazil.
Safestart International, a Canadian company headquartered in Brazil which pioneered the advanced safety awareness and skill development programmes in 1998, said that OS+H Asia was the perfect springboard to introduce their programmes to the region. “We’ve seen steady visitor traffic at the exhibition and met some very important people and collected some good leads; so all in all it has been a very good experience for us. Our seminar on the Human Side of Safety was very well-received,” said Mr Larry Wilson, Chief Executive Officer.
One-day Forum on Workplace Safety and Health 2018
Complementing the exhibition and contributing to raising awareness on safety and health matters, the co-located one-day Workplace Safety and Health Forum was attended by about 100 safety representatives from a range of industry sectors. With participation from specialists across various industry sectors, speakers covered a variety of topics such as SGSecure, competency requirements for WSH professionals, and managing an ageing workforce.
