It is important to address the risk by performing a Dust Hazard Analysis (DHA) to identify & assess the risks of dust explosions, and apply appropriate explosion safety measures e.g. explosion prevention and protection. Various international technical codes and standards are available to address this important topic. In Singapore, SS667:2020 was published to provide a valuable framework for managing combustible dust in facilities. It offers guidance on handling, storage and processing to prevent and mitigate fires and dust explosions in facilities handling such materials.

CORRELATION OF POOR EYESIGHT AND WORKPLACE ACCIDENT Our eyes play a significant role in our life, 80% of what we learn in our lifetime is through our eyes. We process information of the images transmitted through our eyes. A recent study was conducted by Dr. Isik Ates Kiral (Assistant Professor at Bursa Technical University, Department of Civil Engineering) and Dr. Sevilay Demirkesen (Associate Professor of Civil Engineering, Gebze Technical University). The study further intends to create awareness of eye diseases in construction safety, an important root cause for most construction-related hazards and accidents. The results of the study indicated that there are significant differences in peripheral vision in terms of age of participants, work qualification, work experience, area of expertise and previous safety training experience. The study further revealed that most of the participants failed to satisfy both OSHA requirements about peripheral vision, and normal limits defined in the previous literature. The study further implies that participants, who reported previous sight problems or eye diseases are more vulnerable to construction site accidents. Singapore is expected to become a "super-aged" society by 2026. Eye diseases is related to ageing and poor health such as diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, age related macular degeneration, cataract etc. The only way to manage eye diseases is through yearly eye screening to detect any eye diseases at its early stage, so that early treatment can be applied. And furthermore, 83 percent of Singaporeans aged 18 or below are myopic. Workers should have yearly eye screening and issued a pair of certified prescription safety glasses with up-to-date prescription so that it provides them eye protection and clear vision while at work.
